Having a workshop session with Richard Sweeny a pure talent at manipulating paper, we had to develop our own paper sculptures using the method demonstrated by Sweeny and through our own experimentation. these are some of the paper works i came up with.
Above is the outcome of one of my experiments and in my eyes the best one of the day for me. i like it because of its simplicity. i made no cuts into the paper over than little slits to hold the paper in place as we weren't allowed to use any form of glueing or sticking. i am planning on developing the method of simply fold further in my own time to see what other shapes i can accomplish.
i did try a few more goes during the session of not cutting into the material and came up with a ripple(top photo) and a wave.
I tried to have a go at lots of paper manipulation, including cutting into the material. although a didn't like my outcomes when using this method, it can be highly useful and creative. you can easily achieve intricate works and develop beautiful shapes. i plan on practicing this method further to see if i can create anything interesting. also looking at fellow student Rachael spalls work and how she has scored the whole sheet of paper before she starts manipulating it, making the paper soft and less resistant to curve and less likely to crease when not wanted, i shall be trying that method as well.
